In the HOUSTON CHRONICLE, “Yao Ming’s message to his Chinese fans was clear: He plans to play in the Beijing Olympics. In a letter published Friday in Chinese-language newspapers, the Houston Rockets star assured fans that his operation Monday to repair a stress fracture in his left foot was successful and he’ll be fit to play in August despite missing the rest of the NBA season. Yao thanked officials from the Chinese Basketball Administration, family and teammates.?

Bucks rookie forward Yi Jianlian will be an all-star in the National Basketball Association, Bucks general manager Larry Harris is convinced.
And Harris is glad the Bucks were able to land the 7-foot rookie from China in the June 2007 draft, with the sixth overall pick. Yi, who will face off against countryman Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets at the Bradley Center in one week, has been in the Bucks’ starting lineup for all 44 games this season.

There’s embarrassment and shame in this admission, but you need to know: We forgot about Woody Sauldsberry.
He was the NBA’s Rookie of the Year in 1958, just the second black man to win the award. He played for four NBA teams and later the Harlem Globetrotters. Retirement wasn’t always easy. Diabetes claimed one of his legs and had its sights set on the other.
